Editorial Team SDG7 – Affordable and Clean Energy

At Global Society News (GSN), the Editorial Team SDG7 – Affordable and Clean Energy is dedicated to advancing understanding of the global transition towards sustainable, reliable, and modern energy systems. The team brings together journalists, researchers, and policy specialists who analyse the dynamics of energy access, renewable technologies, and the environmental and economic transformations required to build a carbon-neutral future.

Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG7) – Affordable and Clean Energy, established under the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, aims to ensure universal access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all. It calls for increased investment in renewable energy, improved energy efficiency, and the expansion of infrastructure to reach underserved populations, particularly in developing regions where energy poverty remains a barrier to progress.

Energy is the engine of development. It powers industries, enables education, drives healthcare, and fuels economic opportunity. In recent decades, remarkable progress has been made: access to electricity has expanded dramatically, renewable energy capacity has grown, and the cost of technologies such as solar and wind power has declined significantly. However, nearly 700 million people worldwide still lack access to electricity, and billions more rely on polluting fuels for cooking and heating, contributing to both health hazards and greenhouse gas emissions.

The Editorial Team SDG7 at GSN investigates these challenges through data-driven journalism and collaboration with energy experts, scientists, and international organisations. The team covers innovations in renewable energy, emerging storage technologies, and policies promoting just energy transitions that balance environmental sustainability with social equity. Their reports also explore how clean energy development is essential to achieving other Sustainable Development Goals, including climate action (SDG13), economic growth (SDG8), and sustainable cities (SDG11).

Aligned with the vision of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the United Nations Energy framework, GSN’s editorial work highlights success stories in decarbonisation, energy access, and public-private partnerships. The Editorial Team SDG7 gives visibility to regional initiatives that are reshaping the global energy landscape, from community-led solar cooperatives to national strategies for carbon neutrality and green innovation.

By advancing the message of “Affordable and Clean Energy”, the Editorial Team SDG7 reaffirms that sustainable energy is not only a technological challenge but a moral and economic imperative. Their mission is to inform, inspire, and promote action that accelerates the global shift towards cleaner, fairer, and more resilient energy systems for people and the planet.
