BLUE UMBRELA

A group of young Jordanian activists carried out a research field mission ten years ago in collaboration with local, US, and European organizations and universities, including the University of Arizona, the McCain Institute for International Leadership, and Stockholm University’s Department of Sociology.

The mission’s goal was to research the best practices for establishing sustainable civil societies in refugee-affected areas. The team came to the conclusion that the negative effects of the refugee crisis on host communities and socioeconomic structures cannot be mitigated without a self-empowered civil society that is capable of making the best use of available resources in order to reduce the burden that future generations, the state, and donors may bear.
