Refoorest was founded to help reach the Sustainable Development Goal of planting 1200 billion trees by 2030 in order to combat the environmental issue and meet the Sustainable Development Goal. The solution makes it possible for anyone to grow trees for free simply searching the internet.
Thomas Devilder and Adrien de Malherbe have been friends since their days at EMLV (Ecole de Management Leonard De Vinci), where they both graduated in 2005.
Adrien enjoys board sports, while Thomas enjoys traveling, kitesurfing, and diving. They co-founded refoorest in April 2020 during a period of confinement since they are both passionate about entrepreneurship.
They also run other projects with an ecological and sociological focus, such as allcolibri, an impact activation solution for businesses that allows them to give good actions to their clients or employees, such as eliminating plastic from the oceans, planting trees, providing meals to the homeless, and so on.
How does it function?
The concept is straightforward: you download and install a Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Microsoft Edge extension on your computer.
The user can then view which results affect refoorest partners directly from his preferred search engine (Google, Bing, and others). It should be mentioned that refoorest has over 50.000 partners, including major corporations such as FNAC, ASOS, and Tripadvisor.
The addon recognizes the partner's visit and automatically plants one tree. To add to the pleasure, each user has his or her own tree counter and so knows how many trees he or she has planted since the beginning. The extension is completely free because the partner sites pay a commission to refoorest for tree planting.
Two tangible examples of the company's positive action:
- Excess CO2 is the primary cause of climate change. Planting trees is one of the most effective ways to store excess CO2 in the atmosphere, which is largely responsible for global warming.
- Thanks to its +50,000 users, Refoorest has already enabled the planting of almost 500,000 trees. The development of jobs, specifically the planting of trees with refoorest, has resulted in the establishment of more than 5000 working days in the various places where the plantations are made.
One of the most important Sustainable Development Goals nowadays is to reduce CO2 emissions by whatever methods feasible. The most significant technology we have now is the ability to preserve our forests, rehabilitate green spaces, and grow trees where none have been for the last fifty years.
