Solo global sail: Cole Brauer did it

On March 29, 2023, 34-year-old American sailor Cole Brauer from San Francisco made history. She became the first woman in the world to complete a non-stop solo circumnavigation of the globe.

Brauer's journey spanned 122 days, 1 hour, and 40 minutes. She covered 27,750 nautical miles (equivalent to 32,000 miles) on her 65-foot yacht, "First Light," crossing the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans.

Brauer's accomplishment is a significant milestone in the history of sailing. It highlights the increasing role of women in the sport and serves as an inspiration to aspiring sailors.

The journey was arduous. Brauer encountered storms, technical difficulties, and the solitude of the open sea. However, she persevered, demonstrating remarkable resilience and determination. It aligns with SDG 5 (gender equality), SDG 13 (climate action), and SDG 14 (life below water). Cole Brauer is an example that nothing is impossible.
