About

The Editorial Team SDG14 – Life Below Water at Global Society News (GSN) reports on the state of the world’s oceans and global efforts to protect marine ecosystems. The team brings together journalists, marine biologists, and environmental policy specialists who examine how oceans sustain life, regulate the climate, and support livelihoods while facing growing human pressure.

Sustainable Development Goal 14 (SDG14) – Life Below Water, established under the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, aims to conserve and sustainably use oceans, seas, and marine resources. It calls for action to reduce marine pollution, regulate overfishing, protect coastal and marine ecosystems, and strengthen scientific knowledge and ocean governance.

Oceans play a vital role in climate balance, oxygen production, biodiversity, and human livelihoods. Yet marine ecosystems are increasingly threatened by plastic pollution, acidification, rising temperatures, overexploitation, and coral reef decline. At the same time, marine protection, sustainable fisheries, and international cooperation show that recovery is possible through coordinated action.

The Editorial Team SDG14 at GSN examines these issues through data-based journalism, scientific collaboration, and partnerships with conservation organisations and coastal communities. Its reporting highlights marine restoration, sustainable fishing, monitoring technologies, blue economy models, and initiatives that protect and regenerate ocean ecosystems.
